The recent long holiday weekend was punctuated by the next three games of the 2015 Oakleaf Olympics… Mother Nature having been uncharacteristically cooperative with unseasonably warm (60F) weather.
Game 4
Team Oak 10
Team Chatsworth 21
Finally, a win for the struggling Team Chatsworth and a resounding one at that! Team Oak’s shortened bench undoubtedly helped. Fans of Team Chatsworth were greatly encouraged by the showing, even though the entire game was played only in the eastern half of the field.
Game 5
Team Oak 9
Team Chatsworth 11
Not nearly as impressive but it still counts (to paraphrase somebody or other, “an ugly win is still a win”.) Another half-field-only contest, this time it was the western half of the arena that saw all of the action. Team Chatsworth was sometimes distracted by a trio of feathered spectators dressed in blue, white and black and wearing jaunty hairstyles somewhat resembling a mohawk. They crisscrossed the field numerous times whilst emitting raucous calls of what could either have been cheers or jeers at the game’s progress!
Game 6
Team Oak 7
Team Chatsworth 8
Still basking in that “Comeback Kid” glow, Team Chatsworth would have made this game less of a nailbiter if not for an unexpected setback. After scoring the go-ahead goal it was discovered that the equipment locker was totally depleted, resulting in the coach (who also multi-tasks as the Equipment Manager, General Manager, Chief Financial Officer, et al.) having to call for a time out. Unfortunately, due to delays at the local warehouse, the stadium lights were turning off by the time the team was able to return.
STANDINGS: SERIES TIED 3-3
The stage is now set for an exciting Game Seven to be played later this week!
Breaking out the pom-poms to cheer you on!! My games haven’t quite begun yet, but the oaks are gearing up for the win!
Well done Chatsworth! I knew you win in the end. 🙂
Ah good. I think you’ve got them on the run now!
